Hiroshi Yamauchi was a former president of Nintendo and is credited with the idea to create the dual-screen handheld console. He stepped down as president in 2002 before he was able to fully implement the DS, but his idea become a huge success and contributed to the rebirth of the company after it almost died when the PlayStation 2 was released by Sony.
