Hot Wheels were originally introduced by the American toy manufacturer Mattel in 1968. The brand was created to both compete with the popular British die-cast toy car brand, Matchbox and meet the popularity of Barbie. The original Hot Wheels toys were 1:64 scale models of real-life American muscle cars and were designed to appeal to car enthusiasts of all ages.

Over the years, Hot Wheels has expanded its product line to include a wide range of vehicles, including sports cars, race cars, off-road vehicles, and even fantasy vehicles, now reaching over 20,000 designs. The brand has also created numerous theme sets, play sets, and accessories, such as tracks, that have allowed fans to create their own Hot Wheels worlds.
