Cabbage Craze
Cabbage Patch Kids are a line of dolls that took the world by storm in the early 1980s. They are the creation of Xavier Roberts. The dolls were originally produced by Coleco. They have also been produced by Hasbro, Mattel, Toys "R" Us, Play Along, and Jakks Pacific. The toys are currently produced by Wicked Cool Toys.
The dolls are the evolution of a doll also created by Xavier known as the Little People Originals or Little People Pals. The dolls were renamed to Cabbage Patch Kids in 1982 by Roger Schlaifer during a licensing deal because the Little People name was already owned by Fisher-Price.
The original Little People were completely soft sculptured from head to toe. The Kids kept the soft sculptured body but the soft head was replaced by a signature hard plastic head.
These dolls were created to bring joy to children, primarily girls, by giving them the opportunity to adopt the dolls upon purchase of them.
