One of the main inspiration for Beyblades were beigomas, traditional Japanese tops that date back to the seventeenth century. Beigomas “were originally made by filling spiral seashells with sand and melted lead” (2001) until cast iron beigomas eventually appeared in the 20th century. The toy fell out of popularity following World War II but regained popularity with the introduction of Beyblades.
